This question came up recently from a customer who lives in a mobile home park and uses an outside kerosene tank to fuel their burner.
The short answer depends on your equipment and how cold it gets where your tank sits. Standard #2 home heating oil and kerosene (#1 oil) are different fuels with different cold-weather behavior — kerosene resists gelling in very low temperatures, which is exactly why outdoor and mobile-home tanks often call for it.
